Radio personality, author, and public speaker, Earl Nightingale (1921-1989), defined success as “the progressive realization of a worthy ideal”. He pinned the failure to succeed largely on conformity. An oldie but a goodie, Nightingale’s insightful and timeless wisdom provides step by step instructions to transform our lives.
Earl Nightingale was raised during the Great Depression. His father left his mother who raised three children on her own. Being very poor troubled Nightingale who wondered how some people were so rich while others, including his family, were so poor. Nightingale joined the marines and was one of 12 survivors on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor during WWII. Volunteer work at a local radio station while he was in the marines helped launch his career as a radio personality. This YouTube video is actually a record of inspirational thoughts by Earl Nightingale in 1956. Making the record was a request from Nightingale’s sales manager and earned Nightingale a Gold Record with over one million copies sold.
