“I assemble my role models ala carte.” -Neil deGrasse Tyson
It’s difficult to imagine anyone as accomplished as astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson having or even needing a role model. In this quick video, he talks about his method for finding role models.
That’s right! Role models. As successful as Neil deGrasse Tyson is, he actually has more than one role model! Hmmm, Empowered Beyond Today believes he might be onto something.
Of course, it’s important to define “success.” The role model(s) needs to have the values and priorities that you also admire. A person who has achieved great worldly success without having a heart for God may have “success” but will not have fulfillment. To be fulfilled, we need the peace that comes from our loving, Heavenly Father.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33, NIV
Remember, when we wait on our Heavenly Father to instruct and guide us, we walk within His divine plan for us. Is there a greater success than being within God’s plan for our lives? When we listen to Him, we walk in His ways which are much higher than our earthly designs.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8-9, NIV
Do you have a role model? How did you go about finding a role model? How has a role model helped or actually held you back instead?
